Zimmer Frames & Walking Frames

Zimmer frames are excellent - whether it is through injury or age, losing the ability to be active can often feel like a huge blow. It could impair one's ability to have a social life, for instance, and make performing simple household tasks much more difficult. However, it doesn't have to be a problem.

There are a great many mobility and walking aids, including walking frames and zimmer frames, available to assist you in getting around. Millercare is proud to present a range of these such products for people who are in that particular situation, or simply know a friend or family member who is. Our catalogue of walking sticks and Rollators can help to get you back on your feet with just a little assistance.

Our store has a variety of items including standard, foldable and Zimmer frames with wheels to help ensure faster mobility. These simple yet very effective designs provide a frame for people suffering from mobility problems to hold in front of them when walking. They act as a crutch to take the majority of the weight and thereby improve your balance.

On average, they are 12 inches high to allow users of all sizes to comfortably hold them, but most of Millercare's range is also adjustable so you can set it to however you like. The name 'Zimmer frame' derives from Zimmer Holdings, an American business headquartered in Indiana where these types of frames were traditionally manufactured.

Mobility Walking Aids

Millercare also has a range of four wheeled walking frames known as Rollators. These combine mobility assistance with comfort and storage to provide a useful walking frame with wheels you can take everywhere. They not only come with a study frame - not unlike a Zimmer frame - that you can hold onto to support your weight. Many of our products also have a cosy seat and backrest for when you may wish to stop and rest your legs, as well as a large basket and pocket to hold the items you wish to take with you (shopping, money, mobile phone, etc.).

Furthermore, it has a lock feature on the wheels for added security when you are out and about. A similar but smaller, cost-effective and more economical alternative to zimmer frames is the three wheeled walking frame. These walking aids are built in a range of styles and colours including graphite, chrome, steel and much more. The tri-wheeled walkers allow you to combat your mobility problems by proving a secure, adjustable frame to carry your weight. They are stylish, easily transportable and have a good storage space for safely carrying your essentials with you while you are on the go.

All of our products can be purchased online with standard or next day delivery. Orders over £30 with standard delivery are free of charge no matter what the quantity of the order is.

Zimmer Frame FAQs

What is a Zimmer frame?

‘Zimmer frame’ is a generic term that describes light-weight, four-legged walking aids. First invented by the medical company Zimmer Biomet, zimmer frames help to stabilise and protect users from falling whilst walking.

Disabled people can choose from a range of zimmer frames depending on their individual needs. For example, Miller Care stocks a range of easily portable, folding zimmer frames for on-the-go use.

Or, you can purchase zimmer frames with four wheels. These can be particularly useful for those with arthritis or conditions where lifting the frame with each step would become difficult.

What are the benefits of using a Zimmer frame?

Zimmer frames have countless benefits: they are much more comfortable to use than other disability aids, like walking sticks

Whereas walking sticks can cause strain and a reduced sense of stability, zimmer frames redistribute pressure around the body. Their design takes this weight off the user's legs and feet, transferring it to their arms.

Zimmer frames are also ideal for use indoors. If you don’t feel stable on your feet, using a zimmer frame can give you more confidence while completing your daily tasks.

How do I adjust a Zimmer frame for the best fit?

Alter the height of your zimmer frame with a simple push button mechanism. Here at Millercare, we stock a range of adjustable height zimmer frames so you can get the best fit for your needs.

Ensuring your zimmer frame is set to the correct height is vital for avoiding reducing stress on the body. Using your zimmer frame at a height setting that is too low can injure your lower back by causing you to stoop.

But using a zimmer frame that is too high can transfer strain to your elbows and prevent the equal distribution of weight.

What is the maximum weight limit for a Zimmer frame?

Millercare stocks Zimmer frames with various weight capacities, ranging from 127-181 kilograms. Choosing the correct weight capacity will make it easier for your body to transfer strain.

Heavier users will require zimmer frames with a larger weight capacity so the device can provide relief.

Are Zimmer frames suitable for outdoor use?

The zimmer frames available at Miller are are suitable for indoor use only. If you need help manoeuvring around tight spaces in your home, Millercare’s range of narrow walking frames will support you.

Do you need a wheeled zimmer frame to accommodate your reduced strength? Our domestic zimmer frames with wheels are the perfect fit. Designed with high-tensile seam welded aluminium, these models are durable, lightweight and easy to use.

What accessories can be used with a Zimmer frame?

While zimmer frames are excellent mobility aids, they are also customisable! With Millercare’s premium accessories, you can add a practical personal touch to your zimmer frame.

Moving your items from room to room can be tiring: even more so if you’re using two hands to grip your zimmer frame. But with Millercare’s zimmer frame caddy, you can keep your confidence high and move your items wherever you need them.

Are you taking a quick trip to the supermarket? Use one of our walking frame net bags and carry your essentials home without a hitch! Store your milk and bread safely in a durable, nylon-knitted shopping bag with a maximum weight capacity of 60 kilograms.

Does a Zimmer frame require any maintenance?

All mobility aids require regular cleaning, including walking sticks, rollators, crutches and zimmer frames. Maintaining your zimmer frame is a matter of checking it is in working condition before every use.

Check that the ferrules of your zimmer frame (the parts attached to the bottom of each leg that cushions the impact of your walking) are not cracked, torn or worn down. If you do notice damage, replace them.

You should also clean your frame with a mild detergent, wiping it up and down to remove bacteria and dirt.

How do I store my Zimmer frame when not in use?

Keep your zimmer frame stored in dry conditions and away from direct sunlight. If you need to use your zimmer frame to get out of bed or walk to your bathroom, keep your zimmer frame somewhere you’ll be able to access it.

For example, keep it close to your bedside. You face a greater risk of falling and injury if you walk unassisted to get your zimmer frame from another room. By keeping it nearby, you will have support almost immediately as you begin your day.

Are spare parts available for my Zimmer frame?

Yes, Miller care offers replacement parts for zimmer frames. For wheeled zimmer frames, we stock replacement wheels. If your ferrules are worn down, we house packs of 10 16-inch, 19-inch and 22-inch ferrules.

Whatever you need, we can provide!
